What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a holistic health treatment that stimulates strategic points in the body by placing extremely thin needles into your skin at these specific places.
From The Mayo Clinic: "many Western practitioners view the acupuncture points as places to stimulate nerves, muscles and connective tissue. Some believe that this stimulation boosts your body's natural painkillers and increases blood flow."
While patients may feel a slight pressure when needles are applied, most find the technique itself painless.
What does the clinical research say about acupuncture?
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has conducted extensive studies demonstrating the effectiveness of acupuncture for back and neck pain, osteoarthritis/knee pain, and headaches. Additionally, they have funded a variety of ongoing research projects on other promising applications of acupuncture*.
*These include studies with the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAOM), National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, National Institute of Dental Research, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, and National Institute on Drug Abuse.
Where did acupuncture originate?
Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used medical procedures in the world. Originating in China more than 2,000 years ago, acupuncture became widely known in the United States in 1971 when New York Times reporter James Reston wrote about doctors in Beijing, China using needles to ease his abdominal pain after surgery. Research has shown acupuncture to be beneficial in treating a variety of health conditions, including dozens of clinical trials indicating effectiveness in treating chronic pain.
What can I expect from acupuncture treatment with Anna?
Anna believes in treating patients holistically. Your initial appointment will include a discussion of your overall health and beauty goals, to develop a tailored recommendation for care.
In every treatment Anna provides, she includes a full front and back point prescription. Herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping, and food therapy may also be incorporated to meet the needs and health objectives of each patient.
What is facial acupuncture?
In every Facial Acupuncture Treatment Anna gives, she includes body points to stimulate deep relaxation and detoxification-- but hones in on the face to promote skin health, stimulate collagen and elastin production, and lift and sculpt the face.
After a consultation and skincare analysis, she'll create a unique acupuncture point prescription tailored to your needs and desired results.
She starts by needling the body to increase circulation and stimulate the lymphatic system to jumpstart the detoxification process. The body points also boost endorphins, which help release tension and guide you to a sense of calm.
Next, facial acupuncture points target the vascular and nervous systems to deliver key nutrients and neuropeptides to the skin. Released and activated are cells such as keratinocytes, Langerhans cells, mast cells, and endothelial cells… all contributing to the repair, regulation and protection of the skin as well as lymph and blood circulation. Muscle motor points are also targeted to lift and sculpt the face by releasing (wrinkle-producing) tension in the neck, jaw and forehead. She can also address TMJ and tension headaches in this treatment!
After point stimulation, the body’s natural process of cell reproduction and growth is triggered, inducing the release of cytokines and growth factors which promote cell communication and proper function.
Additionally, micro-channels are created through the outermost layer of the skin to prepare for the absorption of a potent blend of eastern medicine and western science. The customized blend of Mee Ra Rituals skincare products are applied and worked into the skin with a stimulating facial massage. The Facial Acupuncture Treatment and application of herbs will help reduce puffiness and smooth, brighten and soothe your skin, bringing out the most radiant version of you!
